Camping at Holiday Parks

Holiday parks are traditionally known for the fact that they offer self-catering camping holidays for individuals and families. Although holiday parks have upgraded themselves to a large extent and now offer different options in terms of accommodation, camping is still one of the most popular accommodation choices there is.

Camping, however, has also moved up in the ranks of accommodation. Tents have become easier to transport and pitch. They also come in convenient sizes to suit the size of your family as well as the various holiday needs that you may have.

What tents don’t offer are WCs, bathroom facilities, kitchens etc. This is one of the challenges of camping that holiday parks overcome. Many holiday parks offer various options in terms of convenience – from just bathroom blocks to more sophisticated bathrooms, WCs and washing up facilities. They even offer electrical hook-up points so that you can use your electrical equipment (like the all important hairdryer) in the comfort of your own tent as well as lights and other fixtures.

The camping facilities at holiday parks can roughly be divided into three main categories:

  • Sites without electricity

  • Sites with electricity

  • Ready-to-use sites.

The sites without electricity are meant for the die-hard camper that wants the charm of an oil lamp and the campfire. Usually there are basic bathroom blocks available within walking distance, but not much further in the way of conveniences (like washing up facilities. There will be water and waste disposal sites available nearby.

Sites with electricity are very popular as the camping doesn’t offer much in the way of home comforts. The electricity helps to ensure that there are lights to turn on. Some of the sites are on hard pitches – concrete blocks laid especially to accommodate the tents – and others on the usual soft pitches – no concrete slabs. There is also an electrical hook-up point from where you can lead the electricity into the tent. These sites tend to be a little more comfortable in terms of washing up facilities and bathrooms and offer even small children the opportunity to experience camping in a pleasant environment. Very often these camping sites are also pet friendly.

Ready-to-use tents are aimed at the first-time camper or campers that don’t want to bring their own tent. These tents are also well suited to the needs of a family. The tents are usually divided into separate bedrooms, come with electricity and also have parking areas and garden furniture for the camper’s comfort. Once again, full facilities are available within easy walking distance – once again aimed at making a first camping experience as pleasant as possible.
